Ealing Council is set to launch a targeted campaign to improve LPG gas safety at the Acton Business Centre, as part of its broader Health and Safety Service Plan for 2025-2026. The initiative follows the identification of inadequate controls around LPG safety at the centre.
The campaign, detailed in the Health and Safety Service Plan 2025-2026 presented to the General Purposes Committee on Wednesday, aims to reduce unsafe LPG use within the centre. The council plans to inspect a minimum of 50% of businesses using LPG indoors, with the goal of reaching 100%.
The campaign will focus on identifying premises that use LPG indoors and engaging with the centre's management to ensure ongoing compliance. The council hopes that this will lead to a reduction in unsafe LPG practices. While specific high-risk concerns and London Fire Brigade referrals are investigated on a reactive basis, the team also carry out targeted gas safety campaigns.
The Workplace and Public Safety Team's aims and objectives for 2025 – 2026, as outlined in the Health and Safety Service Plan 2025 - 2026, are:
- Prevent accidents, injuries, work-related deaths, and work-related illnesses in workplaces.
- Deliver national and local inspection campaigns to prevent harm to employees, and those affected by work activities.
- Sustain the timely completion of investigations relating to workplace accidents and fatalities, to help victims and bereaved families understand what happened (and why), to tackle ongoing risks and to take enforcement action where appropriate.
- Investigate infectious diseases, complaints and notifiable work-related accidents/incidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses (RIDDORs).
- Work collaboratively with the Council's Licensing Team on relevant licensing applications (i.e., special treatments and entertainment/premises licenses).
- Exercise the Council's functions arising out of Sports Grounds Safety legislation.
- Maintain delivery of Health Protection services.
