Merton Council has granted Councillor James Williscroft a request for absence from council meetings until 9 July 2025 due to ill health.

The decision was made at a Council meeting on Wednesday, where the council considered the Absence Report July 2025. Councillor Sally Kenny, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Education, moved the report, which was seconded by Councillor Sheri-Ann Bhim.

The council noted that Councillor Williscroft will have until 9 January 2026 to attend a meeting or seek another dispensation before that time. The process for seeking another dispensation after the deadline was not discussed in detail during the meeting.

The Absence Report July 2025 stated that Councillor Williscroft has been unable to attend meetings since 4 September 2024 and continues to be unwell and is unable to attend meetings.
