Merton Council has made its popular 'Pop-Up Tip' programme a permanent fixture across the borough, ensuring residents have regular access to convenient waste disposal points.
The initiative, which allows residents to dispose of bulky waste, recycling, and small electrical items, will now see a 'Pop-Up Tip' visit every neighbourhood at least four times a year. This expansion follows the success of the trial programme.
Since the expanded scheme launched in April, over a dozen 'Pop-Up Tips' have been held across Merton. A postcode search is now available on the council's website to help residents find out when their nearest 'Pop-Up Tip' is scheduled.
The 'Pop-Up Tips' are designed to accept a range of bulky waste, recycling, and small electrical items, making it easier for residents to dispose of unwanted goods responsibly. The specific types of items accepted are detailed on the council's website, with the aim of diverting as much waste as possible from landfill.
This move to a permanent programme ensures that residents have consistent opportunities to declutter their homes and dispose of items that may not fit into their regular kerbside collections. The council has highlighted the success of the trial phase as the driving force behind this permanent expansion, indicating a positive response from the community.
