Merton Council is continuing its efforts to maintain the presence of police stations within the borough, despite ongoing pressures on policing resources.
At a meeting of Merton Council on Wednesday, Councillor Daniel Holden asked for an update on the future of Wimbledon and Mitcham Police Stations, as detailed in the Councillor Questions and Replies 9 July document. Councillor Edith Macauley, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety, responded that no official decision has been made or released by MOPAC (Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime) on the future of Wimbledon or Mitcham Police Station.
She affirmed that the council has repeatedly raised the importance of keeping both stations open with the Metropolitan Police and the Mayor of London and will continue to do so.
