Greenwich Council is progressing with the appointment of a new Director of Communications and Community Engagement. The Appointments Panel convened on 14 August 2025, to determine the shortlist of applicants for the role.
The Director of Communications and Community Engagement will be the organisational lead for communications and community engagement, responsible for defining and delivering the overall communications strategy for the council, aligned with the council's overall objectives. According to the job description, the postholder will also lead the council's community engagement function, helping to increase community involvement and working with services to deliver modern, effective, and meaningful forms of community engagement.
The public reports pack details that the successful candidate should have significant experience in leading and delivering communications and public relations, as well as corporate experience at a senior level of setting and driving communication and engagement strategies. An excellent understanding of the issues affecting local government is also required.
While the agenda for the meeting notes that these meetings are usually open to the press and public, who are entitled to take photographs, film, or record the proceedings, the panel agreed to exclude them from the remainder of the meeting to discuss the applicants.
