Hounslow Council has refuted claims that councillors or officers veto resident suggestions during the Brentford and Syon Area Forum meetings. The denial came during a meeting on Monday, 15 September 2025, following concerns raised about the Area Forum Action Plan. Residents are encouraged to share their ideas for local improvements with their ward councillor or the Community Development Officer (CDO) to develop achievable plans.

Councillor Theo Dennison had questioned the process by which suggestions or requests from residents were deemed appropriate for action. He expressed concern that councillors could decide whether or not to follow up on residents' suggestions, citing the Police and Justice Act 2006 and section 119 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, which place a duty on the council to act on community calls for action.

Christopher Jarvis, Community Development Officer, explained that the Action Tracker was designed to ensure community ideas were followed through, with updates provided at subsequent meetings. The Action Tracker ensures that ideas raised by the community are followed through with updates at the next Area Forum meeting. He clarified that the aim was to achieve the suggested goals.

The Chair, Councillor Marina Sharma, strongly refuted any suggestion that councillors or officers might veto residents' suggestions. She described the Action Plan and Tracker proposals as a useful tool to be able to get more engagement from residents for everyone's benefit, and emphasised the council's interest in proposals from all sections of the community. At each meeting the Chair decides who will champion a given issue, and that person provides an update at the subsequent meeting.

The Area Forum Action Plan was reviewed during the meeting, with ward councillors providing updates on new initiatives in their neighbourhoods. These initiatives include improvements to public spaces, facilities, and services, as well as community events and activities aimed at bringing people together and addressing local challenges. One example of these improvements is the new children's playground being built at Robin Grove Recreation Ground, which is set to open soon.

The forum also included an open session for members of the public to address the meeting on general issues related to the agenda and other topics. Residents are encouraged to use the Let's Talk platform to provide feedback and access Area Forum updates. During the meeting, attendees were encouraged to use the Quick Response (QR) code to access Area Forum updates and provide feedback through the online form or feedback sheets. Councillor Sharma also invited attendees to share their ideas about CDO Christopher Jarvis's presentation on the Let's Talk Forum.
