The running track at Linford Christie Stadium is facing potential repairs following the discovery of undulations across the 800m facility during visual inspections. A site survey is scheduled for October to assess the extent of the damage.
The Wormwood Scrubs Charitable Trust Committee addressed the issue at their meeting on Wednesday, granting the Chair the authority to move forward with the resurfacing project. According to the Public Reports Pack, officers are aiming to finalise payment in Autumn, with works expected to commence in Spring and last approximately 8-10 weeks from the time the contractor mobilises.
Labosport has been contracted to conduct a thorough site survey, as detailed in the Public Reports Pack. This will involve surface and resilience testing to determine the level of remediation needed for the concrete sub-base. The results of the survey are anticipated in early November.
Currently, the framework contractor has provided a cost estimate for remediating 500m2 of the track. However, it remains uncertain whether this will be sufficient to support the entire structure. An updated quote, providing cost certainty, is expected after the survey results are obtained.
Osama El-Amin, Charitable Trust Manager, mentioned in the Manager's Report that England Athletics has assured the Trust that the track's accreditation will be maintained for another year.
The Thames Valley Harriers have been kept informed throughout the process, and officers have acknowledged their frustration with the project's delays.
