Lambeth Council's Licensing Sub-Committee was scheduled to review the premises licence for Aquarium Tapas Bar, located at 415 Wandsworth Road. The review, prompted by concerns over crime, disorder, public nuisance and public safety, was due to be heard on Thursday 2 October 2025, but the meeting was cancelled.

The meeting status is listed as CANCELLED .

The police application cited several incidents, detailed in the Aquarium cleard report v2, that raised concerns about the bar's operation:

  • February 26, 2023: An argument involving several patrons escalated, with one individual allegedly threatening another with a firearm at 05:20, beyond the bar's permitted closing time of 04:00.

Following this incident, Jorge De Freitas, the designated premises supervisor for Aquarium Tapas Bar, was invited to a licensing intervention meeting. At the meeting, it was agreed that a voluntary variation application would be submitted to reduce the premises terminal hour to 02:00 hours. However, the promised application was not submitted.

  • March 2, 2025: Police investigated an alleged assault at 06:05, finding the venue still open past its licensed hours, a fact confirmed by the designated premises supervisor, Jorge De Freitas.

  • April 1, 2025: During a meeting with the Police Licensing team, Mr De Freitas admitted to multiple breaches of licence conditions and acknowledged difficulties in getting patrons to leave at closing time.

According to the Aquarium cleard report v2, the police application stated that the Premises Licence Holder had failed to promote the licensing objectives of the prevention of crime and disorder, prevention of public nuisance and public safety.

One representation was received in support of the review application from the Licensing Authority, while two representations, including a petition with eight signatures, supported the premises, stating they had no concerns about its operation or adverse impact on the area.

The representations stated that they have no concerns about the operation of the premises and the premises have no adverse impact on the area.

The current premises licence permits the following licensable activities:

  • Sunday - Thursday 10:00 - 00:00
  • Friday & Saturday 10:00 - 04:00
  • Monday – Sunday 07:00 – 00:00
  • Friday & Saturday 10:00 - 04:00
  • Friday & Saturday 23:00 - 04:00
  • Sunday - Thursday 06:00 - 00:00
  • Friday & Saturday 06:00 - 04:00

The Licensing Sub-Committee had several options available, including taking no action, modifying the licence conditions, excluding licensable activities, removing the designated premises supervisor, suspending the licence for up to three months, or revoking the licence.

The Licensing Sub-Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday 2 October 2025 was cancelled. A new date for the meeting has not yet been set. For more information, visit the Lambeth Council website.
