Lambeth Libraries are developing trauma-informed services, aiming to create a more supportive and understanding environment for all library users. This initiative involves developing trauma informed libraries.
The initiative was highlighted in a report discussed at the Children's Services Scrutiny Sub-Committee meeting on 9 October 2025, as part of a broader review of corporate safeguarding policies across Lambeth Council. The agenda and public reports pack for the meeting are available online.
The report, authored by Brenda McInerney, Acting Director of Practice, Performance and Partnerships, Children, Families and Education, summarised assurance activity across council directorates for whom safeguarding children is not 'core business'. The Corporate Safeguarding report noted a strong interest in planning more learning and training across all directorates, including a directorate 'Time To Talk' session focussed on safeguarding and trauma informed practice.
The report noted that the Customer Centre is adopting best practice from Libraries safeguarding policies.
The Sub-Committee was asked to review and endorse an ongoing approach to self-evaluation and scrutiny across all Directorates and make any appropriate recommendations.
