Hounslow Council is considering naming the Charlton and Albany House development in Brentford after its former leader, Steve Curran. The decision is subject to discussions with the Curran family and adherence to due process.
The proposal was put forward at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, where members approved the commencement of the procurement process to appoint a main contractor for the Charlton and Albany House development. According to the meeting agenda, the tender design is expected to be completed in October 2025, followed by a competitive main contractor tender period from October 2025 to February 2026, with contractor appointment approval anticipated in March 2026.
Councillor Tom Bruce, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio holder for Assets, Regeneration and Development, suggested naming the site Steve Curran House
in honour of the late former Leader.
Councillor Katherine Dunne voiced her strong support for the proposal, stating that the suggested name would be fitting. Councillor Sue Sampson also expressed support for the idea, adding that other opportunities for using the former leader's name might also be considered.
The cabinet also noted that an Outline Business Case recommending the delivery option for this project would be subject to cabinet approval following approval of the 2026 Housing Revenue Account (HRA) Business Plan. The Charlton House and Albany House Estate Regeneration Delivery Plan - Cabinet Report final outlines the details of the project. The HRA is a ring-fenced account that local authorities use to account for income and expenditure on council housing.
