Sydenham is exploring ways to create more sustainable streets, with a focus on improving the local environment and encouraging greener modes of transport. The initiative was a key topic at the Sydenham Assembly meeting held on Saturday, 21 June 2025, where Lewisham Council members and local groups gathered to discuss the programme and other community concerns.
The Sydenham Assembly meeting featured a discussion led by Councillor Louise Krupski, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Climate Action. The Sustainable Streets programme aims to make Sydenham a more environmentally friendly place, with a consultation on controlled parking being a key component.
Air quality in Sydenham was also on the agenda, with Councillor Krupski leading the discussion. Air pollution remains a significant concern in London, prompting Lewisham Council to actively monitor air quality and implement improvement measures. This includes measuring pollutants like nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter to assess their impact on public health.
Beyond environmental concerns, the meeting included updates from the Safer Neighbourhood Police Team, focusing on local concerns and community relations. Local groups also had the opportunity to share community updates, covering local events, projects, and issues affecting the Sydenham area.
