Sidcup Conservative Club's outbuildings have come under scrutiny during a recent Bexley Council Planning Committee meeting, raising questions about green belt regulations and local planning policies. The intended use of the outbuilding is for storage of football related equipment, while the smoking cabins are ancillary to the clubhouse and would only be accessible for patrons of the clubhouse itself.
The committee convened on Thursday, 13 November 2025, to discuss planning application 25/01519/FUL, a retrospective application concerning a single-storey detached outbuilding and two timber smoking cabins at the Sidcup Conservative Club on Oxford Road. The report pack for application 25/01519/FUL noted that the key issues to consider were the principle of the development within the Green Belt, the impact on the openness of the green belt, the impact on the character and appearance of the area, and neighbouring occupiers' amenity.
However, Councillor Christopher Readers, the committee chairman, announced that that application's been withdrawn.
While he did not state the reason for the withdrawal, he clarified that just to forestall any questions, there is no connection between that club and the Conservative Party in the borough. There was a disaffiliation, I think, that took place many, many years ago, long, long, I think possibly even before I was born, which is getting longer and longer ago, believe it or not.
