Mitcham residents have voiced concerns over the closure of the Raleigh Gardens car park, Merton Council heard on Wednesday 19 November 2025.
The issue was raised during the Mitcham Community Forum held on 2 October 2025, where residents were informed that planning approval had been granted to build new homes on the site.
The closure of the car park was discussed alongside other town centre improvements. These improvements include the new Merton 60 noticeboard, the new Armfield Station mural at Armfield Crescent play area, and the Mitcham bandstand, according to Mark Warren, Mitcham Town Centre Manager. The Merton 60 noticeboard is part of the town centre improvements in Mitcham.
Residents also voiced concerns about the proposed Majestic Way development by Clarion, including dissatisfaction with the design of the homes and the potential impact on businesses, local wildlife, and provision for older people. One resident commented on the size of the blocks, expressing concerns that the size is under-represented in planning illustrations, and asked whether Clarion has more development plans in the area. Residents were encouraged to share comments via the planning application process and were informed of upcoming Clarion public meetings regarding the Majestic Way development.
The Mitcham Community Forum was held at Vestry Hall and chaired by Councillor Gill Manly. 29 residents and 3 councillors attended. The next meeting will be held on 20 January 2026.
