The Welsh Harp Centre is set to expand its services to provide vocational skills development for young people aged 16 and over with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), preparing them for adulthood. The centre will operate during curriculum time, with provisions for community use at other times.
The announcement was made during the Welsh Harp Joint Consultative Committee meeting on Monday, November 24, 2025. According to the Welsh Harp JCC Agenda Pack, the centre aims to better prepare Brent's young people with SEND for adulthood by focusing on developing vocational skills, such as skills in horticulture.
Brent Council's Children, Young People & Community Development team is currently recruiting a staff member to oversee the Welsh Harp Centre, including curriculum development and liaison with community groups. The post holder is expected to start in January 2026.
The stage 2 design for the building programme has been approved. Brent Council's project team has a pre-planning application meeting scheduled in November with the Local Planning Authority (LPA) to outline the current design and obtain feedback. The LPA feedback and consultation with a wide range of stakeholders will influence the next stage of spatial design. The timescales for the construction of the building are to be determined.
Through Brent's NCIL (Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy) funding, a portion has been allocated to explore the creation of a habitat bank at Neasden Recreation Ground.
