Barnet Council is actively monitoring 186 risks across its various departments and services, according to the latest Quarterly Risks Report. The report, which was discussed at a Governance, Audit, Risk Management and Standards Committee (GARMS) meeting on Thursday 27 November 2025, includes 23 strategic and 163 service level risks. The council maintains oversight of these risks to ensure effective management and mitigation strategies are in place.
The number of risks being monitored has remained consistent with the previous quarter, with 23 strategic and 163 service level risks identified in Quarter 1 as well. It was noted that 7 strategic risks and 16 service level risks were scored at a high level, consistent with the previous quarter.
The Quarterly Risks Report for Quarter 2 of 2025/26 focuses on high-level risks, specifically those scoring 15 or above on a 5x5 scoring matrix. The appendices to the report provide a detailed breakdown of strategic and high-level risks by category. Examples of the specific risks being monitored are detailed in the appendices to the Quarterly Risks Report.
Alaine Clarke, Head of Programmes, Performance & Risk, provided an update on Quarter 1 of the report at a GARMS meeting on 18 September 2025. At that time the committee noted the status of the council's strategic and high level (15+) service risks, including the controls/mitigations in place to manage these risks.
The GARMS committee convened at Hendon Town Hall to review the risk landscape and other key performance indicators.
