Two businesses in Ealing have been denied alcohol licenses, according to a report presented to the Ealing Council Licensing Committee on Wednesday, 25 June 2025. The committee, which convened to discuss licensing sub-committee decisions made between April and June 2025, also reviewed temporary event notices (TENs) and approved the minutes from its previous meeting on 29 April 2025.
The report detailed that Bocian Supermarket, located at 130 - 132 Uxbridge Road, Hanwell, and A Star Retail, situated at 10 King Street, Southall, had their applications for new premises licenses refused. In contrast, Casa, at 165 Dukes Road, Acton, was granted a new premises license, albeit with additional conditions imposed.
Furthermore, Little Ealing Convenience, located at 2a The Quadrant, Little Ealing Lane, Ealing, had its premises license revoked following a review. Costcutter T/a Best Foods, 512-516 Lady Margaret Road Southall, faced conditions being imposed on its license after a similar review.
The Licensing Committee also received an update on temporary event notices (TENs). According to the report, TENs are commonly used for small-scale events such as community festivals, private parties, and charity fundraisers. The report highlighted that a TEN enables licensable activities to be carried out at premises not currently licensed or for activities not covered by an existing license. A personal licence holder can submit up to 50 TENs per year (including 10 late TENs) while a non-licence holder can submit up to 5 TENs per year (including 2 late TENs). A single premises can host up to 15 TENs per year, not exceeding 21 days in total.
At the previous meeting on April 29, 2025, Joe Blanchard, Head of Environmental Health and Trading Standards, presented a report summarizing licensing activity over the previous financial year. The report noted a 20% increase in premises license applications compared to the previous year, with more variations also received and granted. However, temporary event notices were down by a third. Blanchard also mentioned that a new licensing policy was scheduled to come into effect in July, with one of the key changes being the redrawing of the special policy areas, with the Ealing and Hanwell zones being joined together to form a single West Ealing corridor.
