Ealing Hospital has exceeded targets while the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) has delivered 57,000 tests since opening in August 2024, according to a report presented at the Ealing Council Health and Wellbeing Board meeting on Thursday, 26 June 2025.
The board also discussed vaping among young people and the experiences of homeless people in the NHS.
Ealing Hospital Performance
The hospital met the standard of 78.1% of patients seen within four hours in non-elective cases and maintained financial balance. Looking ahead to 2025/6, Ealing Hospital is committed to reducing temporary escalation spaces, increasing access to elective treatment within 18 weeks, piloting a wayfinding approach, and implementing a £5.8m decarbonisation scheme.
Community Diagnostic Centre
The CDC has delivered an additional 57,000 tests up to seven days a week. For 2025/6, the target is raised to 109,000 tests, with two new pathways being considered.
Vaping Among Young People
The board noted the findings of the annual public health report, A generation at risk: Vaping and young people. The report highlights the increasing trend of vaping among children and young people. The report suggests that in 2024, around one in five children nationally had tried vaping, which equates to an estimated 5,947 young people in Ealing. The report also found that children say they vape due to social influences and their mental health. Strategies to prevent the rising trend include the Tobacco and Vapes Bill and local support for children and young people.
Homelessness in the NHS
The board also discussed a report by Healthwatch Ealing on the experiences of homeless people in the NHS. Key findings included that 80% of people said they were treated differently by NHS staff because they did not have a fixed address, and 60% reported a decline in their mental and physical health over the past year. Recommendations included providing clear training for NHS staff on GP registration and strengthening collaboration between the NHS and third-sector organisations.
