Barnet Council is set to formally congratulate the Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, on his success in reducing toxic nitrogen dioxide (NO2) pollution across the capital.

A motion brought before the council on Tuesday 27 January 2026 welcomed the news that NO2 pollution in London has fallen to within the legal limit for the first time since regulations were introduced in 2010. The motion attributed this significant reduction to the introduction and expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).

The council resolved to write to Sir Sadiq Khan to congratulate him on the health and life benefits brought to Londoners and to urge him to continue his work in tackling air pollution.
