Newham Council's Cabinet has agreed to pause plans for fortnightly residual waste collections, following concerns raised about the potential impact on public health and service delivery. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

The proposal to move to fortnightly residual waste collections was put on hold until full impact assessments are completed. These assessments will cover public health, equalities, operational feasibility, and the specific challenges faced by houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), flats, and high-density blocks.
