Adult social care in Islington is facing challenges with new admissions to care homes, despite strong performance in reablement services.

The Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee heard that while 81% of residents require no further support after reablement, new admissions to care homes remain a significant hurdle. The committee was informed that ambitious improvement targets are in place to address this issue.

Despite these challenges, the Adult Social Care Q2 2025/26 Performance Report indicated robust performance in Take Home and Settle services and reablement, with safeguarding performance remaining strong and direct payments stable.

The Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework (ASCOF) is being used to support continuous improvement by providing new statutory benchmarking data, enabling comparison with national performance. This framework is key to identifying areas for development and ensuring services meet evolving needs.
