Tower Hamlets Pension Board Flags Cyber Risk Concerns, Calls for More Concrete Mitigation Measures

The Tower Hamlets Pension Board has raised concerns about cyber security risks to the fund, suggesting that the council's IT department should provide regular updates on the measures in place to protect pension assets. The concerns were raised during a review of the pension fund risk register at a meeting on Monday, 30 June 2025.
During the meeting, board members discussed a range of issues related to the management and administration of the Tower Hamlets Pension Fund, including a review of the pension fund risk register.
Councillor David Stephen Thompson described the mitigation measures in the register as rather bland
and suggested they should be more concrete and specific. He also raised concerns that Paul Audu, the Interim Head of Pensions & Treasury, was named as the responsible person for almost all of the risks. Mr. Audu is listed as the responsible person to ensure accountability for addressing any issues that may arise.
The board agreed that the mitigation measures should be reviewed and updated to reflect what is actually happening, and that the register should be a working document.
