Kensington and Chelsea Council is pushing for step-free access at South Kensington Tube station, a move that would significantly improve accessibility for passengers. The issue was discussed during a meeting of the Environment Select Committee on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Transport for London (TfL) has been tasked with exploring plans to make the station step-free. TfL had previously stated that planning consent for the project was granted in December 2023. This means that work would need to commence before December 2026, although a specific projected timeline for the commencement or completion of the project beyond this deadline has not yet been provided.

The committee also sought updates on the feasibility of making Ladbroke Grove, Latimer Road, and Notting Hill Gate stations step-free.
