Greenwich Council's Cabinet has approved plans for an affordable extra care housing scheme on Langton Way. The decision, made at a meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, grants approval in principle for the disposal of land and buildings at the site to Anchor Hanover Group.

The scheme will provide much-needed specialist housing for older residents in the borough, offering 24-hour support and supervision. This initiative aligns with the Council's commitment to providing better, more independent outcomes for residents and making more effective use of resources.

Anchor Hanover Group, a registered provider and market leader in specialist housing and care for older people, will be responsible for the design and construction of the extra care facility. The Council will retain nomination rights, ensuring that its residents will benefit from the new homes.

The Langton Way site is a former sheltered housing location, and the existing building is no longer required for its original purpose. Issues such as asbestos and tree damage have rendered some rooms unusable. The approved plans will see Anchor Hanover Group develop an affordable extra care housing facility on the site.

The disposal of the land will result in a capital receipt for the Council's Housing Revenue Account, supporting its capital programme. The scheme is also expected to provide broader benefits, including better value and care for residents, potentially delaying or preventing the need for more costly residential care placements, and freeing up family-sized council homes for those on the housing waiting list.

The decision was delegated to the Director of Place and Growth to negotiate the final disposal details and enter into legal agreements with Anchor Hanover Group. Further details on the disposal can be found in the Langton Way Disposal document.
