Councillor Anne Sachs has stepped down from her role as Chair of the Education Scrutiny Sub-Committee, it was announced at the committee's meeting on Monday, March 23, 2026. Councillor Martin Sachs, her husband, provided an update on her health, stating she is continuing to improve but has withdrawn as a candidate for the upcoming elections, meaning she will no longer be available to chair the committee.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Councillor Helen Mullis for Councillor Sachs' commitment and service, not only to the Education Scrutiny Sub-Committee but also as chair of SACRE (Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education). Councillor Mullis clarified her own role, stating, She has also served as chair of SACRE? I am chair of SACRE and she has served very faithfully as a member of SACRE in the wider contribution to the education scrutiny of this borough.
The date of the next meeting was to be confirmed pending committee appointments at the annual council meeting. The annual council meeting is therefore significant as it will determine the future leadership of various committees, including the Education Scrutiny Sub-Committee.
