Brent Council is set to explore the establishment of a new scrutiny committee dedicated to housing, following a unanimous decision at the Annual Council Meeting on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

The proposal, brought forward by Councillor Mary Mitchell, leader of the Green Party Group, was met with cross-party support. Councillor Mitchell highlighted the significant expenditure on temporary accommodation, stating that Brent spends £100,000 a day on this provision. She also noted that numerous external bodies have called for change regarding Brent's housing provision, specifically in relation to this substantial daily cost for temporary accommodation.

The establishment of an additional scrutiny committee focused on housing was carried unanimously. This move aims to provide more focused oversight on housing matters within the borough.
