The selection process for the Mayor involves nominations and a recorded vote by council members. Councillor Amaraga was nominated and subsequently elected. The Deputy Mayor is then appointed by the newly elected Mayor, a role Councillor Mistry assumed following Mayor Amaraga's appointment.
Beyond the mayoral appointments, the Annual Council Meeting also addressed several other key issues. These included the election of Councillor Muhammed Butt as the Leader of the Council, and significant changes to the Council's constitution. These amendments to standing orders for written questions and motions were made to reflect the new political composition of the Council.
