Brent Council has approved its calendar of meetings for the 2026-2027 municipal year, ensuring a structured approach to local governance.

The decision was made during the Annual Council Meeting held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The calendar, which outlines the schedule for council and committee meetings throughout the year, was unanimously carried by councillors.

The approved calendar encompasses a wide range of meetings, including Full Council, Cabinet, and various committee sessions. These include the General Purposes Committee, Planning Committee, Audit & Standards Committee, Corporate Parenting Committee, Licensing Committee, and Scrutiny Committees focusing on Community and Wellbeing, as well as Resources and Public Realm. Additionally, the Health and Wellbeing Board, Brent Pensions Fund Sub-Committee, and several Joint Committees such as the Welsh Harp Joint Consultative Committee and the Joint Boroughs IT Committee are scheduled. The calendar also accounts for civic events and school holidays.

Officers have been granted flexibility to make alterations to the schedule if conflicts or changes are necessary. This process involves consultation with the Leader of the Council, the Leaders of the Opposition Groups, and the Chair of the affected meeting, with the Deputy Director Democratic & Corporate Governance authorized to implement such changes.

In an effort to accommodate diverse community needs, the calendar intentionally avoids scheduling meetings on dates of significant religious festivals and school holidays. This includes periods around the Early May Bank Holiday, Spring Bank Holiday, Eid al Adha, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Diwali, Hanukkah, and Christmas. The schedule also highlights the start and end of school terms and half terms, alongside specific dates for Local Elections and the Annual Council Meeting & Mayor Making.
