Councillor Emma Supple has been elected as the new Mayor of Enfield for the municipal year 2026/27, with Councillor Chris Joannides serving as Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Supple, a podiatrist and dedicated community activist, accepted the role, expressing her honour and privilege to serve the borough. She highlighted her long-standing connection to Enfield, having chosen to raise her family there and her extensive involvement with the community, including her role as Brown Owl for the second Enfield Brownies for 30 years. Councillor Supple, aligned with the Conservative Party, secured 31 votes, with Councillor Faye Nemo receiving 27 votes and four abstentions.

During her acceptance speech, Councillor Supple outlined her priorities, which include championing Enfield's town centres, parks, and green spaces. She also aims to celebrate local employers, support businesses, work, and innovation, and highlight the people and organisations that contribute to Enfield's vibrancy. A key focus will be strengthening international friendships and partnerships, with a reciprocal visit to Gladbeck, Germany, anticipated. My hope for the year is to bring people together, to celebrate what is best about Enfield and to champion the people and organizations who make this such a vibrant and caring place that we all call home, she stated.

The Mayor's role is described as partly ceremonial, but equally important is being an ambassador for Enfield, championing who we are, celebrating what we achieve, and helping promote the businesses, big and small, organizations and innovations that continue to shape our future. Councillor Supple looks forward to working alongside the Deputy Mayor throughout the year to represent Enfield, attend civic events, and support the community.

Councillor Chris Joannides, a businessman and family man, was elected Deputy Mayor, also for the 2026/27 municipal year. His nomination was seconded by Councillor George Savva MBE, who praised his community focus and business acumen. Councillor Joannides, also affiliated with the Conservative Party, received 31 votes, with Councillor Sinan Bostas receiving 27 votes and four abstentions.

Councillor Joannides was described as a very successful local businessman and a family man very, very community focused in all of the works he does. He is also noted for his generosity and for doing a lot of good work in the community. His proposer expressed confidence that he would be a loyal Deputy Mayor of the London Bar of Enfield and would serve us well.
