Catford Town Centre regeneration added to Sustainable Development Select Committee's work programme

Catford Town Centre's regeneration will be officially reviewed by Lewisham's Sustainable Development Select Committee, following a decision made during their meeting on Thursday, July 2, 2026. The committee voted to include the regeneration's progress in its work programme for the upcoming municipal year, aiming to achieve a better balance between environmental and development issues on its agenda.

Councillor Gavin Moore proposed the amendment, stating that the committee's current agenda was too heavily focused on environmental issues and lacked sufficient attention to development. He argued that including the Catford Town Centre regeneration would bring that balance back to the committee.

Councillor Suzannah Clarke seconded the motion, highlighting the regeneration's multifaceted importance. She noted that the project is intrinsically linked to sustainable transport and the creation of enhanced community spaces. Specifically, the realignment of the road as part of the regeneration allows for sustainable transport and the greening of the centre to create a more community space where people could walk more freely.
