Lewisham Council is set to expand its network of electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the borough, aiming to make charging more accessible for residents, particularly those without off-street parking.
The plans were discussed at a recent Sustainable Development Select Committee meeting, where Councillor Corin Ashwell, Cabinet Member for Environment, Nature, Transport and Climate Action, highlighted the ongoing work in his portfolio. A significant focus is the rollout of on-street EV charging points, which will include innovative cross-pavement charging solutions for residents who lack driveways.
Funding for this initiative has been secured from the Department for Transport, and a report detailing the proposed rollout is expected to go before Mayor and Cabinet in September for approval. This move is part of a broader strategy to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and reduce the borough's carbon emissions.
