A new mental health centre in Bethnal Green has reported a significant increase in engagement from the Asian population, with a 38% boost since its opening. The centre has also seen a reduction in missed appointments and a decrease in the use of GP appointments by individuals with mental health issues in the pilot area. Furthermore, there has been a reduction in the number of inpatient beds used by residents from the area, indicating a successful shift towards community-based care.

Giovanna Bari, Director of Mental Health and Learning Disability at the East London Foundation Trust (ELFT), highlighted these positive impacts. The ELFT has a priority for the next year to scale up our neighborhood mental health centers across Tower Hamlets. This involves developing a business case to replicate the successful community-focused model seen in Bethnal Green across the borough, aiming to keep individuals within their communities rather than in hospital settings.
