Redbridge residents benefit from the lowest parking permit charges in London, a recent review has revealed.
Independent benchmarking has confirmed that Redbridge has the lowest resident permit prices across all London boroughs. The findings emerged during a Clean and Green Committee meeting where a verbal update on the ongoing parking review was presented. The review, conducted by the Policy Development Committee, examined operational mechanics and strategic reform options for parking services across the borough.
Key findings from the review highlighted Redbridge's lowest resident permit charges. The review also noted that emissions-based charging is becoming increasingly common in other London boroughs as a means to align parking policy with air quality and net-zero objectives. Many London boroughs now apply surcharges for higher emission and diesel vehicles to align with these goals, a trend that was considered within Redbridge's review.
Karl Brown, Head of Parking and Traffic Services, informed the committee that the review considered various factors including permit pricing and emissions-based charging. The strategic reform options
examined included permit pricing, emissions-based charging, vehicle removals, and blue badge misuse. He explained that decisions regarding curbside allocation are fundamentally about prioritising public space and should be evidence-led. The review also considered emissions-based charging data across London boroughs, Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) design, and borough-wide framework advice to determine Redbridge's current position.
