A former pub in Hammersmith and Fulham is set to be transformed into 11 new self-contained flats after councillors granted planning permission.
The Clarence pub, located at 148 North End Road, will undergo a significant reconfiguration and extension. The existing public house will be retained at basement and ground floor levels, with two additional floors added at roof level. Five-storey rear and side extensions will also be constructed, creating new residential units and enlarged ancillary commercial space, which is intended for the 'reconfiguration and retention of the existing public house'.

While eight public representations were received, with five objections, officers concluded that the proposal would provide acceptable residential accommodation and preserve the character of the Walham Green Conservation Area. The primary reasons for the five objections, mirroring concerns raised for a separate application at 643 Fulham Road, focused on 'the public house's character, waste storage, construction impacts, and the suitability of the use'.
The decision was subject to a satisfactory legal agreement and numerous conditions. These conditions cover a wide range of aspects including: time limits for commencement of development, adherence to approved drawings, submission and approval of details for materials, demolition and construction management plans, logistics plans, air quality dust management plans, ventilation strategies, local air quality building emissions heating plant compliance, electric vehicle charging points, flood risk assessments, surface drainage strategies, blue/green/brown roofs, energy strategies, sustainability assessments, noise and vibration mitigation, land contamination remediation, fire strategies, Secured by Design principles, cycle parking, refuse storage, delivery and servicing plans, operational management plans, and biodiversity gain plans.
