Lewisham Council is taking steps to address the impact of heat in its public buildings, a concern that has been raised at the Health and Safety Committee.
During a meeting on Thursday, 9 July 2026, councillors discussed the Corporate Health and Safety Update. Richard Benjamin, Head of Assurance, confirmed that the issue of heat in public-facing buildings and the need for adequate cooling measures had been a topic of conversation at the Council Resilience Board.
He stated that services should have risk assessments in place to manage heat-related issues, although the Corporate Health and Safety Team had not yet reviewed them. The committee noted the importance of identifying cool buildings
and cool zones
for public use during heatwaves.
The committee agreed to note the report and requested further dedicated reporting on key themes, including heat-related issues.
