Uxbridge is set to benefit from new care homes and affordable housing developments following a Hillingdon Council Cabinet meeting.
During the meeting on Thursday, 23 July 2026, councillors approved the redevelopment of the Nelson Lane site in Uxbridge. The project will deliver two six-bedroom care homes, providing accommodation for up to 12 adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. Alongside the care facilities, two affordable general needs houses will be constructed on the same site.
These developments are part of the council's broader Hillingdon Growth Plan, which aims to regenerate the borough and provide much-needed housing and care facilities. The plan, approved at the meeting, establishes the council's strategic framework for economic growth and regeneration, built around three clear priorities: Innovate, connect, and thrive.
Key objectives within the Growth Plan include supporting innovation and high-value sectors, improving connectivity for residents, and creating places where people are proud to live through regeneration of town centres, delivery of the right homes, and investment in communities. The plan aims to ensure that growth benefits Hillingdon's residents by fostering innovation, improving connectivity, and enhancing the borough's places and communities.
Other planned projects include the development of a strategic spatial framework and the establishment of a cross-council growth board. The plan identifies four principal growth areas: Hayes and Stockley Park's creative cluster, Uxbridge and Brunel's innovation quarter, the Heathrow Economic Activity Zone, and areas north of the A40 for access to nature and unique city experiences.
The Uxbridge and Brunel quarter
is envisioned as a vibrant metropolitan hub where learning, commerce and culture intersect,
with renewed civic and canal-edge assets, along with activated development sites, [creating] a walkable and attractive environment. This will attract talent, retain spending locally and strengthen Uxbridge's economic role.
This vision aims to transform town centres into destinations and make green and blue spaces visible and accessible with healthy, walkable neighbourhoods.
Capital funding of £1 million from the General Fund and £130,000 from the Housing Revenue Account has been approved for the Nelson Lane redevelopment.
Regarding the Nelson Lane site redevelopment, engagement has already taken place with Adult Social Care stakeholders and service users, and further consultation and engagement will continue as the proposals are developed. Any future planning applications will be subject to the normal planning process, including public consultation.

[r]egenerate key sites with community at the core,
[m]ake green and blue spaces visible and accessible with healthy, walkable neighbourhoods,
and [c]hampion our story and build pride through communications and culture.
