Bexley Council's Planning Committee has approved a temporary 12-month extension to the opening hours of a McDonald's restaurant in Sidcup, allowing for dine-in and takeaway customers until midnight and outgoing deliveries until 3 am.
The decision, made on Thursday 23 July 2026, sees the restaurant extend its hours beyond the previously approved times of 6 am to 11 pm Monday to Sunday.
Councillor Oscar Harrison had previously voiced concerns regarding potential increases in anti-social behaviour, noise, and traffic during the later hours, and questioned the validity of the applicant's traffic surveys. Environmental Health officers, however, raised no objection to the revised hours. As a condition to the approval, measures have been strengthened to mitigate noise and a Delivery Management Plan is now required.
The extension is granted on a temporary basis to allow for monitoring of the impact on local residents. After the 12-month period, the hours will revert to the previously approved times unless a new application is submitted. For such an application to be successful, the applicant would have to provide evidence to show that there have been no issues, such as anti-social behaviour, arising from the extended operation.
