Haringey Council has officially corrected a clerical error in a £19.76 million gas supply contract, ensuring the correct supplier name is recorded. The correction was approved at a Cabinet Member Signing meeting held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The contract, which runs from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2029, is for the supply of natural gas for the council's buildings and services. The total contract value remains £19.76 million.
On 12 March 2024, Cabinet approved the award of a call-off contract for the supply of gas under LASER framework agreement Y22008 to Corona Energy Retail 4 Ltd (Corona) for this four-year period.
However, due to a clerical oversight, the correct entity, Corona Energy Retail 4 Limited, was not named in the contract preparation. The supplier was incorrectly listed as Corona Energy Limited, which is currently in Members Voluntary Liquidation. The appointed liquidator for Corona Energy Limited is Ernst & Young LLP.
Councillor Johann Beckford, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services, signed off on the variation and novation of the contract. He stated that the change was essential to ensure the contract accurately reflects the parties involved and to avoid potential difficulties in enforcing the agreement or resolving disputes.
If no action had been taken, the council could have faced difficulties in enforcing the contract and resolving disputes. Furthermore, with Corona Energy Limited in liquidation, not rectifying the contract could have led to issues with the liquidators contacting the Council.
The contract variation and novation is effective from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2029. The process involves a Deed of Rectification and Novation to be executed by all relevant parties to correct the supplier's name in the executed contract.
The alternative of taking no action was rejected, as it could have led to complications, particularly with the liquidation of the initially named supplier. The report confirmed that this correction has no monetary value.
