Clapham bar Mimosa has been granted a late licence by Lambeth Council, but with several conditions attached.

The Licensing Sub-Committee met on Thursday, September 3, 2026, to consider the application for Mimosa, located at 62-64 Clapham High Street. The venue sought permission for films, live and recorded music, dance performances, late-night refreshment, and the supply of alcohol for both on and off-premises consumption until 3 am, seven days a week.

Mimosa's request for hours until 3 am from Sunday to Thursday significantly exceeded the recommended hours for a district centre in Lambeth's Statement of Licensing Policy, which are midnight from Sunday to Thursday and 1 am on Friday and Saturday. The application also sought to consolidate two original licences: one for 62 Clapham High Street (licence since 2011) and another for 64 Clapham High Street (licence since 2005), into a single, clearer licence regime for Mimosa.

Despite the applicant agreeing to conditions proposed by the Environmental Health Noise Team and the Police, concerns were raised by the Licensing Authority regarding the requested hours. These conditions included the provision of SIA security staff, CCTV, incident and refusal logs, staff training, a Challenge 25 policy, and noise limitation devices.

Ward Councillor Linda Bray also objected, citing worries about anti-social behaviour and crime in the area, particularly after midnight.

After deliberation, the committee decided to grant the licence with the following conditions:

  • Off-sales of alcohol will be removed from the licence.
  • Outside tables and chairs will be restricted to use until 11 pm.
  • No drinks will be permitted to be taken outside after 11 pm.
  • The two old licences from the previous buildings must be surrendered.

While the application sought late-night refreshment until 3 am, the conditions imposed restrict the use of outside areas and taking drinks outside after 11 pm. It is not explicitly stated whether the late-night refreshment service for food continues until 3 am indoors without restrictions, but the conditions suggest a general move towards earlier closing for certain activities.
