Lewisham Council has approved an £83 million investment in housing repairs and maintenance, aiming to enhance the quality and safety of its housing stock.
The decision was made during a Mayor and Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, 09 September 2026. The multi-lot procurement exercise will see contracts awarded for five key areas: responsive and out-of-hours repairs, void properties, damp and mould remediation, disrepair works, and complex or cyclical works such as roofing and window replacements.
Councillor Natalie Thomas, Cabinet Member for Safer Homes, Homelessness and Housing Services, highlighted the procurement's importance in increasing capacity, accessing specialist expertise, and reducing reliance on single providers. The estimated total value for these contracts over an initial three-year term, with potential two-year extensions, is £83 million.
The procurement process will also adhere to statutory consultation requirements with leaseholders, ensuring transparency regarding the recovery of works costs. The council aims to increase its supply chain capacity and support local small and medium-sized enterprises through this initiative.
