The replacement of temporary boilers at the Collingwood estate has been delayed and is unlikely to commence until the new year, Sutton Council's Housing, Economy and Business Committee heard on Tuesday 15 September 2026.
Steve Tucker, Managing Director of Sutton Housing Partnership (SHP), informed the committee that following contract approval, an application to the Building Safety Regulator is being progressed. This is because the works affect Baleham House and the wider estate, and every high rise building has to go through that loop of obtaining building safety regulator approval.
Councillor Louise Phelan, Chair of the Licensing Committee, had enquired about the progress of the contract, which was approved at a previous meeting. The meeting minutes mention that a contract for up to £1,099,900 (inclusive of a 10% contingency) was approved for the replacement of the Collingwood boiler house. However, the impact of the delay on this cost is not specified.
Mr Tucker confirmed that the works are unlikely to commence until the new year, pending the regulator's approval. As soon as we receive the building safety regulator's approval, we'll press ahead with mobilization,
he added. Once approval is received, SHP will move ahead with mobilisation.
