Islington Council has approved plans for a new £1.7 million community park building at Ray Crescent Open Space, which will replace the former Crooked Pavilion.
The decision, made by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee on Thursday, September 17, 2026, will see T&B Contractors awarded the contract for the construction of the new single-storey building. The contract for the new community building at Ray Crescent was awarded to T&B contractors for £1.716 million. This development is part of a wider project that includes upgrades to playgrounds, new outdoor gym equipment, refurbishment of basketball courts, and the planting of at least 24 new trees.
The new building is designed to provide community and sports facilities, featuring a kitchen, accessible toilets, and baby-changing facilities. It will also include an office for the park service and a community room, available for community groups and to facilitate events allowing residents and users to come together. A planning application for the building was granted in August 2024.
The project aims to enhance the park's facilities, offering a flexible, mixed-use space for community groups and events, fostering a greater sense of community and well-being for residents. The capital delivery team has overseen the project, which includes demolition of the existing pavilion, foundation works, construction of the new building, and landscaping.
