Eltham Crematorium Boundary Wall Repairs Approved for £68,526
Eltham Crematorium will undertake repairs to its boundary wall at a cost of £68,526 after councillors agreed to proceed with a specific repair option that will maintain the site's current aesthetics.
The Eltham Crematorium Joint Committee met on Monday, 12 October 2026, to discuss various operational and financial matters. A key decision was the approval of 'option ii' for the boundary wall repairs, which involves the construction of a two-brick thick wall at a total cost of £68,526.39.
This option was chosen over other proposals, including replacing the existing half-brick thick wall with a one-brick thick wall and new foundations for £56,880.73, or replacing it with fencing for £28,869.20. The committee also opted against seeking additional quotes.
The decision aligns with the Royal Borough of Greenwich's commitment to providing sensitive bereavement services and enhancing environmental sustainability.
Beyond the boundary wall repairs, the meeting covered a range of operational and financial updates. These included financial reports detailing the projected financial position for Period 5 of the 2026/27 financial year, balances for Repairs & Renewals and Donations, and distribution payments made to constituent authorities. Operational updates encompassed cremation figures, memorial sales, cremator servicing, maintenance, and recommended repairs. The committee also celebrated the success of the Eltham Crematorium 70th Anniversary event and a London in Bloom Award. Further discussions involved data on CO2 emissions for new cremators and works to the small ponds, which were expected to result in an underspend. The Internal Audit Assurance level for the period was rated as Moderate
