Eltham Crematorium Marks 70 Years with Prestigious London in Bloom Awards
Eltham Crematorium is celebrating a significant milestone, marking its 70th anniversary alongside a string of prestigious London in Bloom Awards. The crematorium's achievements were a key focus during a meeting of the Eltham Crematorium Joint Committee on Monday, 12 October 2026.
The crematorium secured the highly coveted Cemetery and Crematoria (5-10 acres) Gold Award
and the Cemetery and Crematorium of the Year in the Capital Campaign
at the London in Bloom Awards. These accolades highlight the crematorium's dedication to maintaining beautiful and well-kept grounds.
Further underscoring its commitment to environmental responsibility, Eltham Crematorium also received the Greener Global Funeral Bronze Award
in March 2026. This award recognises their proactive approach to sustainability, guided by a comprehensive Environmental Policy.
The 70th-anniversary celebration itself was a notable event, featuring a Tree Planting Ceremony.
The occasion brought together past and present employees, committee members, and other stakeholders to commemorate the crematorium's long history.
The Eltham Crematorium Joint Committee, responsible for the management of the facility, is composed of representatives from the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the London Borough of Bexley, and Dartford Borough Council. The committee's remit includes reviewing financial reports, operational updates, and making key decisions, such as those concerning boundary wall repairs. Further details on the committee's proceedings can be found in the Public reports pack for 12th October 2026.
