Bexley Council is continuing to advocate for the extension of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Belvedere. Councillor Baroness O'Neill of Bexley OBE, Leader of the Council, recently raised the issue in a meeting with Transport for London (TfL) officers, pressing for the extension of the scheme to Belvedere.
During the Council meeting on Wednesday 16 July 2025, as noted in the Agenda frontsheet 16th-Jul-2025 19.30 Council, Councillor Baroness O'Neill presented a report on the work of the cabinet, which included an update on transport initiatives in the borough. The Leader also reminded TfL of other crucial transport requirements for Bexley, including the Crossrail 2 (C2E) project, bus transit improvements, enhanced river crossings, and upgrades to the Superloop offer, particularly in Welling.
The push for the DLR extension is part of a broader vision to improve transport infrastructure and connectivity within Bexley. The Council aims to enhance accessibility for residents and support economic growth in the area. The DLR extension to Belvedere would provide a direct link to Canary Wharf and other key destinations in East London, benefiting commuters and businesses alike.
Councillor Baroness O'Neill's report also touched on other transport-related matters, such as the increase in tariffs for all vehicles using the Dartford Crossing. She stated her commitment to continue pressing for the extension of resident discounts to Bexley residents, mitigating the impact of the tariff increase on local commuters.
