A Grenfell Scholarship to support children and young people from the local area, particularly those in and around North Kensington, has been proposed by Councillor Kasim Ali, Leader of the K+C Labour Group. The scholarship aims to provide financial assistance and educational opportunities to young people facing similar socio-economic circumstances as those affected by the Grenfell disaster.

The proposal was made during a meeting of the Kensington and Chelsea Full Council on Wednesday, 16 July 2025. Details of the meeting can be found in the full council 16 july 2025 supplementary papers.

Councillor Ali highlighted the enduring impact of the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the need for a lasting investment in the future of the next generation. He stated that the scholarship should aim to provide financial assistance and educational opportunities to young people facing similar socio-economic conditions as those affected by the Grenfell disaster. The scholarship would cover educational opportunities for young people facing similar socio-economic circumstances as those affected by the Grenfell disaster.

Education is a vital pathway to opportunity, success, and long-term prosperity for individuals and communities alike, Councillor Ali said. The Grenfell Legacy should include a meaningful, lasting investment in the future of the next generation.

Councillor Ali said he would seek meetings with the relevant Government Ministers to explore and pursue the creation and funding of this scholarship initiative and expressed his hope that the Council leadership would support the proposal as part of our collective responsibility to honour the memory of the victims and help build a better future for the affected community.
