Lambeth Council has addressed resident concerns regarding traffic speed and volume on Abbeville Road and adjoining roads during a council meeting on Wednesday, 15 October 2025.

Residents in the area have raised safety issues, though the specific traffic control measures causing the most concern were not detailed in the meeting information.

Councillor Alison Inglis-Jones raised the issue with Councillor Rezina Chowdhury, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Lambeth and Clean Air, during the Council Questions Final portion of the meeting.

Councillor Inglis-Jones asked for a timeline for action or at least some 20-mile-per-hour speed signs to be placed in key areas.

Councillor Chowdhury responded that she would be very happy to work with Councillor Inglis-Jones and review what signage is required, and suggested a meeting to discuss the matter. She also noted that any significant changes to address traffic and road danger would require a holistic, area-wide approach to traffic management, referencing the Healthy Neighbourhood Plan which sets out the current work program for area-based interventions.

According to the Agenda Supplement - Items 4a and 4b Wednesday 15-Oct-2025 19.00 Council document, the meeting took place at Lambeth Town Hall.
