Lambeth Council has debated the benefits of the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens Healthy Neighbourhood trial, following concerns raised by residents.
At a Council meeting on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, councillors discussed the trial and its impact on the community. Councillor Martin Bailey had asked Councillor Rezina Chowdhury, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Lambeth and Clean Air, about measures to ensure the trial delivers genuine benefits for residents, including those on border roads. Specific traffic reduction targets have been set, with the Healthy Neighbourhood trial expected to deliver a reduction of traffic, road danger and speeding in the area.
Councillor Chowdhury responded that the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens Healthy Neighbourhood is expected to deliver benefits for residents across the area. Active travel will be encouraged by creating a safer and cleaner environment and through a supporting behaviour change programme. A range of placemaking opportunities have been identified enabling key businesses and community organisations to expand on the kerbside as part of the trial. The scheme will be monitored in line with the Healthy Neighbourhood Delivery Framework and anything learned will inform future schemes through a process of continuous improvement.
The Council Questions Final document shows that Councillor Bailey's question was one of many posed to the Cabinet during the meeting, covering topics from school sports facilities to community safety and support for residents.
