Linford Christie Centre's New Sports Facilities Set to Open in August
Sports enthusiasts in Hammersmith and Fulham will soon benefit from new sports facilities at the Linford Christie Centre, scheduled to open in August 2025. The Wormwood Scrubs Charitable Trust Committee received an update on the capital programme at its meeting on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, detailing the progress of the artificial pitch redevelopment.
According to the Public reports pack, the artificial pitch redevelopment is ahead of schedule. Enablement works, floodlighting improvements, carpet installation, and line marking are complete, with testing planned over the next two weeks. The new facilities will be available for hire next month.
The committee also discussed the condition of the athletics track, noting significant dips in the eastern aspect. They delegated authority to the Chair, Councillor Alex Sanderson (Deputy Leader (with responsibility for Children and Education) and Lead Member for Inclusive Community Engagement and Co-production), to authorise a solution with a financial implication of up to £100,000. This decision aims to address the undulations identified by Surfacing Standards Ltd. to ensure the track meets required standards.
Other key items discussed at the Wormwood Scrubs Charitable Trust Committee meeting included the decommissioning of the KAA2 site, the future of Park Lodge, and updates on the Braybrook Street Play Area Improvement Scheme. The committee also celebrated the final designation of the Wormwood Scrubs Meadow as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR), increasing the total LNR area to 29.15ha, representing 38% of the open space.
