Barnet Council has confirmed that design consultants will cover the costs of redoing works on the Regents Park Road bus lane. The council will not incur any additional expenses as a result of the rework.
The issue was raised during a Council meeting on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, when Councillor Zinkin inquired about the estimated extra costs for the project.
Councillor Schneiderman clarified that the design consultants would bear all expenses for the amendments. He also said that the consultants had visited the site, addressing concerns about the consultants' familiarity with the area.
Councillor Mastin Lee voiced concerns about the bus lane, describing it as potentially becoming a local disaster
and questioned the estimated time savings the bus lane would bring to that stretch of Regents Park Road.
Councillor Schneiderman responded that the rationale for the bus lane is to speed up buses on the 13 and 460 routes, based on TfL data showing delays in those areas. He added that the bus lane's operation would be monitored and reviewed to ensure it functions as intended and does not cause adverse effects. Specific metrics for monitoring the bus lane's performance were not disclosed.
