Barnet Council has committed to establishing a regional park to safeguard the borough's green spaces. The commitment aims to help protect green spaces within the borough.
The decision was made at the Council meeting on 21 October 2025, following a question to Councillor Houston, the Cabinet Member for Homes and Regeneration, who agreed to the proposal. The commitment aligns with the local plan, and the council has already taken steps to advance the idea, including a visit to the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority to study its operations.
While enthusiastic about the project, Councillor Houston acknowledged the current budgetary constraints, emphasising the need for a sensible and prudent approach to bring the regional park to fruition. The goal is to celebrate Barnet's green and diverse nature while ensuring financial responsibility.
The motion was put forward during a discussion of other topics, including tributes to former councillors, high street improvements, public engagement in major developments, and community safety initiatives. More information on these topics can be found in the full council meeting minutes.
